WELCOME to the Legbreaker challenge sportive ride, which will take you through some of the most scenic and secretive Staffordshire Moorlands lanes. The routes are designed to be tough with little respite but spectacular views, please ensure you have suitable gearing (34 x 26 is recommended) and fitness to attempt the rides.

You have a choice of three stunning ROUTES

  • 164km (102m) Legbreaker Super Challenge climbing 3783m
  • 130 km (81m) Legbreaker Challenge with 3050m of climbing, both passing through England's highest village, Flash (1518ft)
  • 72km (45m) Legbreaker Mini Challenge with 1638m of climbing (and no Flash!)
  • If you reach the second feed station after 4pm and you have not arranged separate parking you will be directed back into Leek, missing out the full route.
HQ opens at 7.15am, rider groups of 20 will start from 8am at 3 minute intervals.
The routes are all fully sign posted with marshalling at critical areas, but you should still take time to familiarise yourself with the course.
There are three feed stations on the Super Challenge, two on the Legbreaker Challenge and one on the Mini Legbreaker at 49km (30.5m) and 88km (56m) and 140km (87.5m). The feed stations will be providing fresh fruit, cakes, savoury food and water. They will not have energy bars or energy drink. If you wish to provide your own food please bring this to the HQ clearly labeled before 8am.
Innertubes, tyres and mechanical support will be available at the feed stations.

All three rides follow the same route until they split either for the Super Challenge and Legbreaker routes or the Mini.
The Legbreaker & Super Challenge routes are exactly the same. When you get to the end of the Legbreaker route you can then choose to finish or start the additional Super Challenge loop. This option to start the Super Challenge will be closed after 3pm

Route support is provided by Raynet, a radio communication network. If you are in need of assistance and cannot obtain a mobile phone signal your nearest Raynet car will be able to radio in to base for you. For major mechanicals we can then arrange collection. Raynet will also be checking off riders at each checkpoint to ensure the full course is completed.

Please ensure that your bike (and rider) are ready for the circuit. Many of the roads are steep and narrow (climbs and descents). Ensure that your tyres and brakes are in good condition, you have a couple of innertubes with you, pump or C02, plenty of drink and energy bars, mobile phone or money for a call box in case of difficulty.
